Cover Songs

I was talking about wanting to do an acoustic cover of a song earlier... and how copyright laws get in the way of that.

The last like... ten minutes... I've been half-thinking about cover songs... and how they're a seriously mixed bag for me. Sometimes, covers are awesome. Sometimes, they're just annoying (and if I hear anyone ever cover "Time After Time" again... ooooh... I am pretty sick of that song being covered).

The thing is... I treat them differently from an original song. What's up with that? Is it that Johnny Cash is really so amazing that nobody can touch his songs without me wanting to tear the cover artist apart?

Probably not. But for some reason that I haven't figured out... my demands on cover songs are so much higher than my demands for original songs.

Got any idea why that might be?
